Jesus said, “Out the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, slanders.” (Matthew 15:19)
I have had deep disappointment based on following, and not leading, my heart. Christ must be the crown of our heart or we will follow after the wrong things in life. Our hearts must be led in the right direction based on the word of God.
Let’s define exactly what the heart is. The heart is composed of your identity, center, and headquarters. The identity means this is the real you and truly who you are. The Bible teaches us, “As a person thinks in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7). The center simply means your core being; which includes your motives, thoughts, and belief system. The headquarters means it’s the place where you store up hurt, pain, joy, happiness and sorrow.
We can’t follow after our heart because we will chase after the wrong things. Following the heart means you will chase after what feels good in the moment and have no concern for what God may desire for you. The heart is corrupt and a very unreliable decision making tool.
Here are 9 things you don’t know about the heart:
1. Your heart is a valuable jewel and you must treat it as such. Don’t allow your heart to be filled with things that are not of God.
2. Christ must be the crown of your heart.
3. The heart makes up words, actions, and your thoughts. What you truly are and feel will flow through your heart; good or bad.
4. When your heart is not right, it has an impact on everything you do. This includes your relationships, family, career and friends.
5. The Bible teaches us we can’t trust our hearts. “The heart is deceitful who can trust it?” Jeremiah 17:9
6. Satan will always attempt to attack your heart, thus you must guard it. Guard doesn’t mean being rude, closed off, or excessively guarded with people. It means you live with purpose and develop your heart to be a reflection of Christ.
7. The heart is selfish.
8. The heart is sinful.
9. If we don’t allow God to change our heart we will always chase after the wrong things.
Do you understand the importance of not following your heart? Don’t follow your heart. Lead your heart.

Another great blog filled with some wonderful food for thought. You hear people say all the time, “follow your heart” or “listen to your heart”… But the word says in Psalms 37: 4-5, Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it. This means that all the good within your heart will be given to you according to the WORD FILLED in your heart!!!
Thanks Q, this is a right on time reminder!!!
Natisha,
THank you sis…yes you are correct. Then of course as I stated in the article when your heart is filled with the world that is what you put out into the world
Wow, blown away by this great info…I feel refreshed after reading this. Glory to God! Awesome, a must read for singles.
Love this,…have always believed that it is a good thing God does not give us the desires of our heart until we delight in The Lord,.because until we delight in The Lord the desires of our hearts would take us further from God !
This is awesome!!!!
Thank you both very much for your kind words.

I believe that as long as we allow God in our hearts, we can have a real good reason to follow our hearts. Anybody agree?
