Waiting for the man we believe God for can feel as if there is not much sand left in the hourglass. Getting older, all of one’s accomplishments and the personal dragons we have slain can falsely serve as a notice that it is time to get a husband, in order to complete “the dream.” Those lonely moments keep creeping in from time to time, and desire for companionship is only getting stronger. The fear of being single longer than planned can disrupt internal peace, unless we make a purposeful choice to, not only wait for God’s timing, but to wait with courage. Then we will not rationalize continuing to see “Mr. Oh So Fine” (that is not so suitable for us). Instead, we are resolute enough to walk away without the fear of losing him.
Contentment with Waiting:
Contentment with your singleness can be the determining factor of whether it is an exciting time in your life or a joyless season. Although it can be challenging to wait on the man of your dreams to walk into your life, the ability to thrive as a single person can easily override any feelings of discontentment. The key is simply to live your life by maximizing your present state. There is an entire world out there, just waiting to receive what you have to give. Regardless of where you are, there are people who need what God has placed inside of you. Living as a single woman is your time to discover what seeds have been lying dormant and begin to cultivate the richness inside of you. As a result, you will happily live with fulfillment and walk in your purpose. It is too easy to throw a pity-party and sulk about being alone another year. Challenge yourself to do something different by pursuing what life has to offer. You will consider being single a privilege, not a burden, once you discover and work on God’s assignment for your life.
The Courage to Wait:
It takes courage to wait. Courage is what pulls us through those periods of fear and doubt. It makes the difference in how we choose to live out singleness. Will we succumb to the pressures of the world to appease others and satisfy our own deficits, or will we choose to be bold and live according to God’s design? I know it is easier said than done, but the truth is, the choices made today determine the quality of life in the future. Keep in mind, God has not forgotten you. He knows the desires of your heart. Exercise patience when you feel under pressure and during times of weakness. The courage to wait on God’s timing will lead you to your destiny, including the man of your dreams.
